Azure Cosmos DB: Create New Cosmos DB

Cosmos DB is latest evolution of Document DB. Microsoft announced a new service known as Cosmos DB and moved Document DB as a subset of it. Azure Cosmos DB allows you to implement/use Key-value, graph and  document data in one service at global scale without worrying about schema or index management.

To access or create a Cosmos DB, we need Azure Portal subscription. You can create a free account for 30 days. You will receive $200 free credit for 30 days with your free account to use the Portal services.

Once you are done with the subscription, follow the below steps to create the Cosmos DB.

1. Sign in to the Azure portal. After sign in your Azure Dashboard will look like this.

2. In the Left Pane, click New, click Databases and then click Azure Cosmos DB, or can click the Azure Cosmos DB Link from the left pane directly.

3. On the New Account blade, provide the configuration that you want for your Cosmos DB account. Complete the fields on the New Account blade, using the screenshot and details provided below and click Create button to create the account.

Field Name	Suggested value	Description
ID	Unique value	A unique name that identifies your Azure Cosmos DB account. The string documents.azure.com is appended to the ID you provide to create your URI, so use a unique but identifiable ID. The ID can contain only lowercase letters, numbers, and the hyphen (-) character, and it must contain from 3 through 50 characters.
API	Based on your requirement	You can choose one of four programming models: Gremlin (graph), MongoDB, SQL (DocumentDB), and Table (key-value).
Subscription	Your subscription	The Azure subscription that you want to use for your Azure Cosmos DB account.
Resource Group	The same value as ID	The new resource-group name for your account. For simplicity, you can use the same name as your ID.
Location	The region closest to your users	The geographic location in which to host your Azure Cosmos DB account. Choose the location that's closest to your users to give them the fastest access to the data.

4. On the top toolbar, Click Notifications to monitor the deployments process.

After few seconds you will be able to see the notification for the deployment succeeded. Once deployment is succeeded, Click on Cosmos DB from left pane, you can find the database created by you without collection(table).

Get Tables and Views containing Column with Specified Name

Here, I will explain how to get the list of table names which contains specific name. I feel this query is very helpful in real scenarios.

For example, We have one key in our tables and which is named as Unique_Key, now there is requirement to change this column name to Master_Key, so there is two way either we have to check all the tables and views and by one to make sure which table and view is using this column name or we can use the below query to identify the table name and and view name within seconds.

Method 1 (Search Tables): 

SELECT      
sc.name  AS 'ColumnName',
    st.name AS 'TableName'
FROM        
sys.columns sc
JOIN
sys.tables  st   ON sc.object_id = st.object_id
WHERE       
sc.name LIKE '%coulmn_name%'

Get Column Names from a Table in SQL Server

Here, I will explain, how to get the list of column names using Table name as input. There are multiple ways to get the column names from a table. You can get the column list with Select statement also, but there we will get data too.

If you want to get only list of columns from a table below are the queries which will work for you.

Option 1:

SELECT 
NAME AS [COLUMN NAME] 
FROM 
SYS.COLUMNS
WHERE 
OBJECT_NAME(OBJECT_ID) = @TABLE_NAME
ORDER BY 
COLUMN_ID

Option 2:

SELECT
    SC.NAME [COLUMN NAME]
FROM
    SYSCOLUMNS SC
    INNER JOIN SYSOBJECTS SO ON
    SO.ID = SC.ID
WHERE

    SO.NAME = @TABLE_NAME

Option 3:

you can get the column list from a table with their datatype information using below query.

Where to Write JavaScript in <head> or <body>

you can write or place any number of scripts in an HTML document. 

You can write or place scripts in the <head>, or in the <body> section of an HTML page, or in both.

JavaScript in <head>

In below example, a JavaScript function is written in the <head> section of an HTML page.

This function will be called when a button is clicked.

External JavaScript

You can also write or place the scripts in external files.

External file: myFirstScript.js

It's better to use the external JavaScript when the same code is used in many web pages. 

To use the external script, mention the name of the script file in the src attribute of a <script> tag.

JavaScript files have the .js extension.

You can place an external script reference in <head> or <body> or both.

External scripts can be referenced with full URL or with a physical path relative to the current webpage.
